Cutting Back Is In While Subscriptions Are Out

CBX Vibe

That Hulu or Netflix subscription package is moving lower on most Americans' priority list and with good reason. Of course everyone would like to keep up with the Joneses or whoever is trending nowadays but these bills just won't let up. There's always a bill that's due at the end of the month and subscription services are quickly losing their grip on most of Americans' wallets. In fact, 6 out of 10 are more than willing to cancel their auto-renewals because it's just not adding up.

Can Venture Capital Overcome AI Bias in Startup Funding Decisions?

CBX Vibe:

Despite years of public commitments to racial equity, the venture capital world still has a representation problem. In the first half of 2024, Black-founded U.S. startups received $228 million in funding, or about .3% of the nearly $79 billion that went to U.S. based startups, according to Crunchbase. While the startup economy boasts endless talk of disruption and innovation, it remains deeply traditional in one way: who gets to build, scale, and profit. Bias in human decision-making isn;t the only thing holding Black entrepreneurs back anymore, now it’s coded into the algorithms.

Why Women-Led Startups Still Struggle for VC Money

CBX Vibe:

Though venture funding involves hard numbers, the process of receiving a check worth millions of dollars is surprisingly less scientific. In 2023, at least 5% of all startups in the United States were founded by women, yet they receive only about 1.8% of venture capital funding. The result is a rather unregulated system, one that involves networking and intuition. While women founders have made significant gains in the last 10 years, funding distribution still hasn't achieved parity.

Tune-in Tuesdays!

For as little as $200,000, you not only get a home in select Caribbean islands but also get a passport. Granted, the U.S. political volatility has been on an upsurge but is this citizenship being fronted as the latest luxury accessory or global mobility?

A. “Price Tag” by Jessie J – These programs sell dreams, but at what cost? Citizenship is becoming transactional and a second passport is becoming the new Rolex
B. “Identify Yourself” by Stella Mwangi – These deals promise mutual benefit, but who’s really looking after the islands? The money’s flowing in, but not everyone’s catching the tide
C. “New Start” by Emorie – For some, it’s strategic movement. Global unrest, tightening borders, and climate anxiety are pushing people to seek exit plans

What are your thoughts on this? Tune in next Tuesday to see which jam captures the prevailing sentiment!

Automation and Tariffs Are Fueling Black Unemployment in the U.S.

CBX Vibe:

While America celebrates a “soft landing” and steady job numbers, the Black labor force is weathering a different storm. In June, Black unemployment spiked to 6.8%, its highest level since January 2022, even as the national rate hovered at a modest 4.1%. The headlines tout recovery and resilience, but Black workers, particularly those in retail, tech, and manufacturing, are being pushed out of a labor market that's increasingly shaped by automation and global trade policy.

Why InsurTech Needs a Human Touch to Win Big in a $1.5 Trillion Market

CBX Vibe:

People often think insurance innovation will replace agents, but it actually reshapes their role in new ways. Yet human expertise remains essential with InsurTech companies, as the U.S. life insurance and annuities market is projected to hit $1.54 trillion by 2029, according to Statista. This is why Tray Honeycutt, founder of Honeycutt Insurance, is leaning into how insurance agents are leading innovation through a people-first strategy that blends new technology with valuable personal expertise.
