Money Is Pouring Into AI Startups, But The Profit Isn’t Coming Out For VCs

It’s rare to read headlines about startups raising millions in Venture Capital (VC) funding, without Artificial Intelligence (AI) being at the forefront of their product offering. That’s because the market for AI has been experiencing rapid growth, going from a valuation of $136.6 Billion in 2022, to an expected $1.8 Trillion by 2030. However, while funds are pouring into AI startups, not a ton is coming back out at the other end. In fact, last year, venture funds invested $60 billion dollars more than they collected - a record profit gap.

Latinos Join The Chat As Concord Snags Daddy Yankee’s Catalog

Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee is cashing in on his hits by selling his publishing rights and recorded music catalog for a cool $217.3 million. The reggaetón star's rights to global chart-toppers “Gasolina”, “Rompe” and Luis Fonsi joint “Despacito” will be part of the largest and most significant deals in Latin music, a genre which continues to soar to new heights and set U.S. revenue records. The agreement will cover all of Daddy Yankee’s tracks produced between 2002 - 2019, plus his name, image and likeness (NIL) rights.      

Liquidation Season Continues As SPAC Investors Returns Are Down 67%

SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) sector has been a major source of corporate finance in the U.S. Currently, 85% of some 300 SPACs that completed reverse mergers though 2022 are trading below their IPO price. The rising tide of a raging bull market since mid-2023 hasn’t lifted the SPAC boats. Companies that went public this way have lost more than $100 billion in market value.

Research shows that when robots are introduced in various industries, job transitions to better-paying roles become reduced significantly. Robots are not just replacing jobs, they're also reducing the overall career value and opportunities for upward mobility for low-skilled workers. To add salt to the injury, the unemployment rate is steadily increasing jumping to 4.2% from 3.7% in 2023.
